“The Second Day of July 1776 will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. . . . It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires, and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.”–John Adams to Abigail Adams, July 3, 1776

You know you’re in trouble when even Helen Thomas starts squirming.
(CNSNews.com) - Following a testy exchange during today’s briefing with White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, veteran White House correspondent Helen Thomas told CNSNews.com that not even Richard Nixon tried to control the press the way President Obama is trying to control the press.
“Nixon didn’t try to do that,” Thomas said. “They couldn’t control (the media). They didn’t try.
“What the hell do they think we are, puppets?” Thomas said. “They’re supposed to stay out of our business. They are our public servants. We pay them.”
Uh, Helen. Elections have consequences, as the good Mr Limbaugh is fond of reminding us. And when you elect a thug Marxist you get a thug Marxist. We told you so…. now, what are you going to DO about it? Where’s all that patriotic dissent and truth to power BS you lefties were so proud of during the last eight years? I watched a tape of this and the rest of the “journalists” were just hanging their heads. They looked like little kids in class hoping to be invisible. And Gibbs is an arrogant sack. He’ll get his one day.
It’s interesting that Helen Thomas is the one making a stink. And it would be even more interesting but for the fact that I suspect she’s more upset about not getting to ask her own questions than that Obama’s control of the press is harsher than Nixon’s. But it’s a start.
