I find it interesting that a university professor in Burnaby B.C. is calling for repealing the long gun registration law in Canada. He says it didn’t work to reduce firearms deaths. This from an academic who incidentally lives in a world class city (Vancouver) that has seen more than 20 gang murders since the first of the year. I hesitate to tell the good professor that it never WAS about saving lives or protecting people.
It is time to pull the plug on the long gun registry. The present Canadian firearms program was misdirected from the beginning. It focused exclusively on normal law-abiding people who happened to own firearms, rather than on violent criminals. It should come as no surprise that it hasn’t been effective in either saving lives or in combatting criminal violence.
The NFA rules, whether the Canadian or the American NFA, have never really halted any crime sprees. The ban on “saturday night specials” was never intended to stop a single gang shooting or liquor store hold up. Restricting the sales of scary black guns with shoulder things that go up never saved the life of a single Holocaust Museum guard. And gun registration, be it in Canada, England, or the United States,was never intended to stop “criminal violence” or to save a single life. Even though the statistics he cites back up what we’ve all said, gun registration, gun regulations, and outright gun bans have always been about one thing only. Just ask the Mullahs in Iran right now. They’ll tell you what gun laws and gun registration is all about.
But I’m sure I don’t need to tell the good professor. He is Gary Mauser, and judging by his resume he already knows what gun laws are about. Professor, go ahead and tell the world the truth about what gun control is really all about. It is about political power and force. Statistics and sob sister stories about innocent kids being mass murdered in their beds by stray cop killer bullets are for the lazy and the gullible. Go ahead and tell the truth. Governments don’t care about the suicide rate. They don’t care about accidental shootings, or intentional ones for that matter. And they really don’t care about ducks or Bambi, or lead killing California condors, or even about gangbangers killing each other.
Tell them the real truth…gun control is about people control. Gun control is about government control. Governments don’t care if that is Neda on the ground dying. That’s what guns are for, and she is a warning. Only governments can have guns.
Tell them Professor Mauser. It can’t hurt, and now is the perfect time, while Neda’s blood is still fresh on our minds. Because after all, statistics haven’t changed, and never will change, anyone’s mind on gun control.
