General Deer Hunting season opens in many areas of Idaho this Friday.  I’m looking forward to it this year because I’m planning to get out on opening day.  Gear is ready, hunting ammo is all loaded, and the rifle is zeroed.  I was “up in the hills” a large part of the day, making the last minute decision of where I want to be.  I saw one doe on my way out, so I know I’m in the right area.  We’ll see how out of shape I am when I start hoofing that rifle and pack up and down the hills.

The one thing that might be a wildcard here is the weather.  It was pretty nice today, but it’s cooling off fast.  I’d be surprised if we’re in the sixties here in town (the weather guy just said 57), and the thermometer in the truck said low 40’s when I was in the hills.  Last week we had a 90 and a 91!  We have a freeze watch on for tonight.  I’ll have to get out and clean all the green toms off the plants before it gets dark tonight.  Tomorrow it’ll be in the low 50’s and windy, and by Friday morning they’re predicting snow in the hills, and perhaps even here in the valley.  Ok then.  Last year the hot weather went on and on, and all the hunters were complaining that it never got cold enough in the mountains to make for good hunting before the season ended.  That won’t be the case this year.  I can hardly wait!  But snow?  Whew!
