According to the procedure established by the directives, cases of this kind were not tried by a jury, but by a panel of three judges appointed by the Bureau of Economic Planning and National Resourses; the procedure, the directives had stated, was to be informal and democratic.  The judge’s bench had been removed from the old Philadelphia courtroom for this occasion, and replaced by a table on a wooden platform; it gave the room an atmosphere suggesting the kind of meeting where a presiding body puts something over on a mentally retarded membership.            -Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand, 1957

Next in line at Harry and Nancy’s Congressional Rescue Mission and Soup Kitchen we have Ahnauld Schwarzenegger, hat in hand, cigar in back pocket, humbly asking for a mere $7 billion.

Schwarzenegger asked the Treasury Department for a $7 billion bailout Thursday, according to The Los Angeles Times. The money is needed, the governor said, to avoid having to shut down state operations because the state fund is empty until sales and tax revenues can be collected.

“I’ll gladly pay you on Tuesday, for a hamburger today.” You bet Wimpy, coming right up.

Speaking of “wimpy”, I’m continually amazed that the Republicans are being so placid (do what you want with that) at the abuse the Donks are piling on them

Rangel said that this was another example of Republican politicians begging for a bailout.

“It’s really difficult for me to understand (how) Republicans, who want to keep big government out of the private sector, find it so easy to ask us for $700 billion to get involved in the private sector and now comes California with a well-known Republican asking to be bailed out,” Rangel said.

Anyone in the Stupid Party have an answer for old Charlie?

*crickets*

That’s what I thought, and actually, what I expected. By this point, I’m used to the Stupids in their role as punching bag for the crooks and liars that make up the Democrat party. Anyone care to take a shot at Barney Frank?   He’s been pretty pompous and self-righteous through this whole bailout affair.  You know, not only was one of his boyfriends running a gay prostitution service out of his apartment, but another boyfriend was a Fannie Mae executive.   And he’s just the one voted “Most Tabloid”.  Go down the line, look at them all, and ask yourself if there is anything here the Stupids could do to make a point or two concerning government favors, campaign contributions, or conflicts of interest.  It’s already apparent they’re going to give the Donks a pass on the Constitutionality of the whole thing.

How about the Maverick John McCain.  All you folks who tell me I have to vote for McCain “to save the country”, explain that to me again.  Where is the leadership?  Where are the stones?  I like GW Bush as a human being, but he’s been the biggest dissapointment as a President in my lifetime.  I seem to recall he was another “we have to vote for him because he’s all we’ve got” candidates, right?  And John McCain is now in that role.  Hero, check.  Loves his country, check.  Experience, check.  But questionable on the Constitution.  Amnesty.  Campaign Finance Reform.  And now Bailout 2.0… seriously, if he wanted to cop another couple conservative brownie points, he could have voted “NO” on the bailout bill and made a lot of people happy, and the damn thing would still have had plenty of votes to spare.  Don’t tell me that is cynical and typical Washington how-to-get-it-done… were you paying attention to how they got that turkey passed?  But McCain isn’t showing maverick reformer here, nor is he showing leadership right now.  He’s too busy being “bipartisan” to go after the Democrats for their part in the whole scandal.   I wouldn’t put it past him to pick AlGore in his cabinet for Environmental Advisor.  Besides, you know he’s not very good at explaining complex answers, and he’s afraid of being tarred with the “racist” brush.  So he’s business as usual on this one.  And don’t call it amnesty a bailout, damn it.  It’s a pathway to citizenship rescue plan.

Sigh.  We’re so screwed.  But you know what?  We deserve it.

As an afterthought, I know some of you are going to point out Sarah Palin as the hope here.  I like Governor Palin, but she isn’t the top of the ticket.  And let me remind you that in the debate she blamed the mess on Wall Street, and didn’t tie it to government… My wife just mentioned that she sees Sarah Palin is being held back.  Remember, a vote for McCain/Palin is a vote for McCain.  The soonest we’re going to get to vote for Sarah Palin is 2012.  Reality folks.  We live here.  It’s Obama vs McCain.  And the fix is already in.
