You’ve no doubt seen the plank in the Democrat Platform concerning guns and gun control.

We recognize that the right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we
will preserve Americans’ Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that
the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation, but we know that what works in
Chicago may not work in Cheyenne. We can work together to enact and enforce commonsense
laws and improvements – like closing the gun show loophole, improving our background
check system, and reinstating the assault weapons ban, so that guns do not fall into the hands of
terrorists or criminals. Acting responsibly and with respect for differing views on this issue, we
can both protect the constitutional right to bear arms and keep our communities and our children
safe.

Like a lot of leftie claptrap it sounds so wonderful, so fair, so… reasonable.  But there is NO protection of the right to own a gun in Chicago.  The law says you can’t.  So much for Democrat “common sense”.

Too bad that when you check the facts and look at reality, they have nothing to back that “common sense” up with.  The kind of unconstitutional gun laws they have in the Democrat controlled city of Chicago DO NOT work.  Never have, and never will.  The gun laws in Chicago, Washington D.C., and all the other large Democrat controlled cities in the country haven’t stopped one criminal, one crime, or one shooting for that matter.  And the fact that the Democrats have nominated a Presidential candidate from Chicago, with, supposedly, plenty of experience there, ought to be enough for everyone to be able to understand that the Dems and their would-be Emperor are not only naked, they’re clueless as well.  Again, check the facts

In May, cbs2chicago.com began tracking city shootings and posting them on Google maps. Information compiled from our reporters, wire service reports and the Chicago Police Major Incidents log indicated that 125 people were shot and killed throughout the city between the start of Memorial Day weekend on May 26, and the end of Labor Day on Sept. 1.

According to the Defense Department, 65 U.S. soldiers were killed in combat in Iraq. About the same number were killed in Afghanistan over that same period.

In the same time period, an estimated 247 people were shot and wounded in the city.

And, lest you tend to still buy the lie that it is a gun problem rather than a criminal problem, keep checking the facts

Bond said gang-related violence presents the most serious danger to Chicago residents.

“Gang and gun violence continue to be the dominating threat on our streets,” Bond said in an e-mail. “Up to 60 percent of the shootings are gang related. More than 90 percent of the offenders have criminal histories and up to 80 percent of the victims have criminal histories.”

Obviously, “what works in Chicago” DOESN’T.  This isn’t a gun-show loophole problem, or an assault weapon problem, or even a background check problem.  So called gun violence is a crime problem, a criminal problem, and unconstitutional laws that only restrict the rights of citizens don’t even address the real problem, much less solve it.  What will it take for people to wake up and actually do something about crime and criminals and gangs of criminals?  What will it take for people to wake up and vote for civil servants who will correctly address the real problem, instead of voting for fools who pass feel-good laws that simply entrench their own power, and continue to leave the citizenry helpless?  What will it take for people to vote for civil servants who will actually enforce laws against criminals, catch them, try them, and jail them?

Why on earth would you vote for a party and a candidate so wrong on a problem and so bankrupt of solutions?  Barack The Phoney Obama is nothing more than a carnival barker sucking in the rubes so he and the carnival he works for can empty their pockets.  The real stats coming out of Chicago prove it.

From Bill Whittle over at NRO, concerning Palin, McCain, and believing again

I think the magic of Sarah Palin speaks to a belief that so many of us share: the sense that we personally know five people in our immediate circle who would make a better president than the menagerie of candidates the major parties routinely offer. Sarah Palin has erupted from this collective American Dream — the idea that, given nothing but classic American values like hard work, integrity, and tough-minded optimism you can actually do what happens in the movies: become Leader of the Free World, the President of the United States of America. (Or, well, you know, vice president.)

Like all of Bill’s stuff, this is a great piece.  RTWT  By the way, over at his own blog he’s made a promise of a new long essay, soon.  Oh goodie!
