Awhile back I remember coming across a book asking where the jet packs were that we 50’s and 60’s kids were promised when we were growing up?  I said to myself, “Yeah!”

Well, it’s too late for me (I’d never ride it now), but someday, this would be way cool!

I’ll take one more shot at the Maverick this morning, then I’m going to stop for now.  I know he is trying to run as “conservative enough”.  My question is “for WHOM, and by what measure?”   The American Conservative Union released their 2007 ratings, and on the face of it, John McCain can say he has an 80% rating.  But did you look at the numbers?

That 80% rating is based on only 10 votes out of 25 total that the ACU used to rank Senators.  John McCain voted in a conservative manner only 8 times out of 25.  He DID NOT VOTE on 15 of the 25!  Really ACU, do you think he deserves an 80% conservative ranking?  That looks more like 33% to me.  And what were some of the votes he did NOT vote on?  Was he working hard to keep America strong and on the right track?  You be the judge.  He didn’t vote on a bill to limit the use of eminent domain.  He missed some energy bill votes.  He didn’t vote on the SCHIP bill, or the hate crimes bill cloture vote.  He didn’t vote on a bill to stop increased funding for U.N. peacekeeper operations.  Are any of those important conservative issues to you?  Are they important for America?

Let’s see, he also missed votes on bills concerning offshore drilling for gas, small business regulation, and that ridiculous energy bill that banned incandescant bulbs and raised gas mileage standards.  He DID manage to vote FOR amnesty and stem cell funding.  By the way, his ranking for 2008 will show that he didn’t vote to stop the President from continuing to fill the strategic oil reserves.   Yes, DIDN’T VOTE.  Hard working conservative?

No other Senator missed more of these 25 votes, including his Democrat opponents.  Add this to his already well known record, and I don’t see how he can claim an 80% conservative record… it just isn’t true.  And shame on the ACU for giving it to him.  He didn’t play 5 innings, so he doesn’t get the win.  His ranking and rating deserves a big asterisk next to them.
