So, after the business was finished this morning, I decided that such a beautiful day was the perfect time to take the new rifle for its first shoot.  Loaded up the truck and went out to my favorite spot in the desert and got acquainted with my new favorite gun.  Spent some time sighting in the scope, which wasn’t too far off to begin with.  The young man who mounted the scope and bore sighted it did a lot better job than he told me he did (smart customer service).  I put a box of 150s through it, and took plenty of time doing so.  That was partly by plan and partly by cow.  There were a dozen range cows in the area, meandering back and forth in the area behind my target.  But the sun was out, little wind, and from prone it was actually pretty warm.  Practiced proper sighting, controlling my breathing, smooth finger pull… all the steps.  The rifle is much more accurate than I am, so I have my work cut out for me.  But I love it!  It is very nice to shoot.  I’ll share a target from next time, because the first day target with inexpensive factory ammo isn’t getting any blog space.  I’ll share a pic instead.

first shoot

Oh boy, a new ePostal!  With aliens and flying saucers as targets. Head on over to JimmyB’s place and check out the rules and grab the target for the April edition of ePostal.  That’s fun stuff.   The pic is one of the illustrations from the very first book on flying saucers I ever read.  1950’s.  Gradeschool, riding the bus, reading George Adamski’s  Inside the Spaceships … whew.  That’s crazy stuff.  ufo

The big liberal media threw a party a little while back, broadly proclaiming the death of the 4000th soldier in Iraq.  It was almost the only Iraq news we saw, because, certainly, it is not news that things in Iraq are improving.  The good that America does is not reported with the same level of, shall we say “vigor”, as the grim is.

So it will be no surprise at all if this next news item is handled in different ways by different outlets.  It is another body count, disgusting to most of us, and with a far greater significance for America than the loss of 4000 soldiers over 4 years (meaning no disrespect for their sacrifice).  I saw the war body count on the front page of my paper.  I did not see the culture war body count on the front page though.

(CNSNews.com) - Planned Parenthood Federation of America made unprecedented revenues and increased the number of abortions over a one-year period by the largest percentage since 1996, according to its just-released annual report.

For the fiscal year July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007, the organization earned revenues of more than $1 billion and recorded 289,750 abortions - 24,807 more than the previous year.

I’ll bet Obama is thrilled.  That means 289,750 girls and women who weren’t punished for getting pregnant last year.  And I’m sure Hillary can feel proud of all the empowerment of women going on here, what with more than $1 billion in revenues for the year.

According to the report, Planned Parenthood gets 33 percent of its revenue from federal grants and contracts under the Title X family planning program. Last year, the organization received $336.7 million of taxpayers’ money.

With the 2008 Title X appropriation decisions due out this summer, Planned Parenthood is lobbying for an increase in funding, despite figures in the annual report that show the organization has $114.8 million “excess of revenue over expenses.”

Wait a minute… I though PP was a non-profit?  All those people crying about the “excessive windfall profits” that the oil companies make must have not heard this yet.  But then, “excess of revenue over expenses” isn’t the same thing as “greedy capitalistic rape-the-little-guy profits” is it?   Hmmm… I guess liberal non-profits live by different rules than the rest of us.  But then, that’s true about a lot of things, isn’t it?  But it must be difficult for them, especially in an election year, getting such a good annual report but not being able to really brag on it as much as they’d like to.  Wouldn’t it be nice to tout the increased market share PP gained last year?  After all, they now do 1 in 4 abortions in this country.

In the report on abortion trends in the United States, the number of abortions in the U.S. dropped from 1.3 million in 2000 to 1.2 million in 2005. As noted, however, for FY 2006-07, the number of abortions by Planned Parenthood increased 24,807 over the previous year for a total of 289,750 abortions.

All these numbers are misleading however, also in a typical liberal fashion.  The stated objective of PP is to provide contraceptive services and advice in order to decrease the number of abortions.  Yeah, right.  Sounds like boiler plate for the teenager to tell the concerned parent when they find the pack of pills in the nightstand drawer.  The numbers for morning after pill “emergency kits” are reported separately.

The annual report provides separate numbers for Planned Parenthood’s distribution of 1.5 million emergency contraception kits, which contain the so-called morning-after pill. If taken three to five days after having unprotected sex, the drug can prevent or end a pregnancy.

Despite figures that show 81 percent of the 10.5 million people served by Planned Parenthood received contraception services, last year Planned Parenthood increased the number of kits it distributed by almost 200,000. The kits do not require a prescription and can be obtained by those 18 or older at pharmacies.

1.5 million chemical abortions!  On top of 1.2 million clinical abortions.  At a profit.  With taxpayer money.  YOUR money, and MINE.  God have mercy on us all.

Statistics.  Milestones.  Tombstones.
