Burnt out on the news and politics for tonight and we didn’t get a new Netflix in the mail so we were flipping channels and came upon this. Earth vs The Flying Saucers from 1956! This movie scared me to death when I was younger. I remember one of the older kids down the block made a robot costume out of cardboard covered with foil and silver paint. I can still see that awful robot walking stiff-legged up the street, arms outstretched, and a half dozen little kids running away to their homes, screaming hysterically…
You know, it’s a wonder any of us are even marginally sane today. Flying saucer attacks when we were little, mad robots, atomic bomb drills and sonic booms. Then we got to be teenagers. Sex, drugs, rock-n-roll, Bay of Pigs, missile crisis, assassinations, race riots, Vietnam. If we survived that we got Jimmy Carter, the Misery Index, gas shortages, inflation…
Sorry about that. Maybe that’s why my honey doesn’t let me watch old black and white sci-fi very often. Too many flashbacks.
