David Codrea over at The War on Guns has a guest editorial about Jeanne Assam, the hero of the Colorado church shooting, which sums it all up nicely.

Jeanne Assam was a volunteer. It wasn’t her job, in the strictest sense of that word, to confront the gunman, it was her responsibility. It was a responsibility freely accepted and faithfully executed. It is the responsibility that all of us who are citizens and not serfs embrace along with the liberty that such a burden secures. Jeanne Assam and the other volunteers at the church were acting as a citizen’s militia, in the classic American definition of that term. They were volunteer sheepdogs, watching over the flock. And they did their duty.

Prepared, trained, ready, willing, and able. The responsibilities of carrying are huge, but when you really think about it, they are no less than the responsibilities that come with being a citizen.

I had written earlier about the persecution in Britian of people who had converted away from Islam.  But the disease is even closer than you think.  How about the father in Toronto who choked his 16 year old daughter to death for refusing to wear the hijab?  True story from the National Post in Toronto.

..The 16-year-old Mississauga girl who was allegedly strangled by her father in a dispute over her refusal to wear the hijab has died.
Aqsa Parvez, a Grade 11 student at Applewood Heights, succumbed to her injuries late last night, Peel Regional Police said today.
The girl’s 57-year-old father, Muhammad Parvez, has been charged with muder. Aqsa’s 26-year-old brother, Waqas Parvez, has been charged with obstructing police.

..The girl, Aqsa Parvez, was in critical condition on Monday after being strangled, apparently after a dispute with her family over her refusal to wear the hijab, the Islamic headscarf worn by some Muslim women.

However Peel Regional Police said Tuesday the girl died late Monday night.

Police arrested the victim’s 57-year-old father, Muhammad Parvez on Monday morning after receiving a 911 call from a Mississauga home from a man saying he had killed his daughter.

What kind of monster kills his own daughter?  What kind of religion inspires this kind of hate for another human being who thinks differently than you.  What kind of excuse are the feminists, and CAIR, and the “religion of peace” moderates going to try to sell us this time?

..Friends believe Aqsa was the victim of a dispute over the teenager’s desire to be more western.
“She wanted to live her life the way she wanted to, not the way her parents wanted her to,” classmate Krista Garbhet told the Post this morning.

Islam has a problem, and no amount of happy press can get around the fact that fundamentally, Islam and sharia law are incompatable with Western ideals, particularly the ideals of personal liberty and religious freedom.  It’s too late for Aqsa Parvez.  But my suggestion to other Muslim fathers who worry about their children being wooed by Western ways would be “Don’t even come here!”  Come to England to live as the British.  Come to Cananda to become a Canadian.  Come to American to BE an American. Come, and enjoy the liberty and freedoms that the British, the Canadians, and the Americans enjoy.  But don’t come here and kill your daughter because she won’t wear a head scarf, or be submitted to a religion she doesn’t believe.  Because, while they are too afraid to say it, not even the most PC liberal among us will defend your right to kill a little girl like that.
