Awhile back I decided I needed to add another shotgun so that I’d have something to shoot steel shot this year for duck season.  I searched around, weighed the idea of buying a new or a “previously new” gun, and handled all the used guns in town, and some of the new ones too.  It was a struggle (yeah, right) but I forced myself.  Decided on a field trained, well-kept Remington 870 Wingmaster, because it just had the right feel, and they look nice (I just couldn’t convince myself to buy one of those plastic camo magnum satelite chasers).  Oh,  and the Wingmaster was in my price range.  Did I mention, it was also my birthday?  Remember me telling you my wife went out of town?  (yes, I told her first)

I’ve been very happy with it.  The old Belgian made A-5 doesn’t have to go duck hunting now.  I can carry the Remington longer, and it swings a little easier.  I need to go shoot some clays though, because I’m a little klutzy with the pump spoiled by the auto.  It’ll be a great addition to the collection.  Thank you very much.

I mentioned all of this to a gentleman I know the other day, and he told me that under similar circumstances he had just purchased a birthday present for himself as well.  He’s been carrying an old Ithaca side by side (much older than my A-5) since he was “younger”.  I asked what he’d decided on and he said “a Beretta”.  And yesterday, when we went hunting, he let me fondle hold it.  What a sweet shotgun!  I think I’m in love…
