I had the toy car out this morning, before the rain comes in. I think I’d like to take it pheasant hunting next month, and try to get some pics of it with the old (’50’s) Browning humpback shotgun my Dad gave me to use. It might be kinda cool… couple of pheasants on the hood, with the A5 leaning on the fender. Hmmm…

Bill,
Picked up the link on “People of the Gun”. I have trying to make a stop at all the blogs that come up with the new pictures.
I live in N.C., and while I don’t have any old Chevys, I only own one shotgun. An old A-5. I have looked at, held, considered, and even shot a number of shotguns, and haven’t found a need that the A-5 won’t cover.
Beautiful car, by the way.

welcome ASM! Thanks for coming by, and thanks for the kind words.
That is my sweetie’s toy car… belonged to her grandmother, who bought it new up in Payette (nw of Boise). Old cars are fun, esp when they have a little family history. Old A5s are fun too. The one in that pic is my Dad’s. I love it. I’m thinking about picking up a used Remington Wingmaster for ducks though. I’m told the 50’s polychoke on this A5 doesn’t appreciate modern steel shot, and I’d hate to hurt it. Bismuth based shot shells are way too expensive for my level of shooting

Mine’s not that old, and it has modern Browning Invector chokes that thread into the muzzle.
You could consider a newer barrel, that would allow you to keep shooting it, and not risk the original barrel with steel shot. It would always allow you to put it back. Here’s one, a 26″ barrel with Invector threading: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=82100260
Just an idea, you can certainly fold up some ducks with a Wingmaster.
It is always good to meet another member of the tribe. I am 4 rows above you, “Big Old Boom Stick”, shooting a Springfield 03A3 in a Garand match.

Pleased to meet ya.
I first looked at the idea of getting another barrel, but then I got to looking on all the racks here in town and I can find a dozen used Wingmasters within 8 miles of my front door, and half of those are offered below $300. Couple of them are pretty nice, so I’ll probably do that… two weeks till season opens, so I’m still sorting them all out. Might take a drive down to Red’s Trading Post too, just to look. If it was early dove season I’d be tempted to pick up a little Ithaca 37 20 ga that Cabelas has on its “pre-owned” rack. Tried to convince my honey she’d like shooting clays with that more than the A5, but she saw through that ploy in a wink… maybe next summer.
