I know everyone thinks he did a great job in NY after 9/11. But he has more “position changes” than a certain Dem candidate, and they are all concerning things most conservatives hold dear. At his core, Rudy is NOT a conservative, and he’s a Republican only so far as it benefits him. Just like everything else the man does. He’s been a DEM, an IND, and now a REP. He’s a serial adulterer, publicly. Not to the skanky level old BJ Clinton attained, sure, but Rudy can hardly be trusted for anything he says… if his wife and children can’t believe him, WHY should we? He sucks on immigration. He’s lousy on social issues. His professed faith doesn’t inform, guide, or direct his everyday life (like many American Catholics, his personal positions and beliefs do not match up with the teachings of his faith). So tell me, why should we believe him when he goes in front of the NRA?
Rudolph W. Giuliani yesterday assured members of the National Rifle Association he would protect their Second Amendment rights while his rivals for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination criticized his inconsistent record.
While former Sen. Fred Thompson drew enthusiastic applause for boldly telling 500 NRA members gathered at the Capital Hilton that they should simply “check my record,” the former New York City mayor frankly acknowledged: “You never get a candidate you agree with 100 percent.”
That’s a poor way to promote yourself as the best hope for the Republilcan Party, to say nothing about your promises to the country about its future under your leadership. Rudy has no core positions beyond “what’s in it for me”.
“There are a lot of things you and I have in common. There are probably a few things we disagree about, but there are many more things that we have in common,” said Mr. Giuliani, the Republican front-runner, who once labeled the NRA as a pack of “extremists.”
I don’t mean to be crude, but he sounds like a slick old fart trying to coax some naive young thing into bed. Come to think of it, that IS what he’s trying to do. Are you falling for it? “Check my record” is pretty good advice. When I check your record Rudy, I see a man I cannot trust. So standing in front of the NRA doesn’t do it for me, any more than John Kerry’s phoney goose hunt did. You aren’t my candidate.
Update: Hot Air has the video tape of Rudy’s confusion about the Second Amendment, and the phonecall he took from his wife during his speech… NOT impressive.
