Speaking at Kanal D TV’s Arena program, PM Erdogan commented on the term “moderate Islam”, often used in the West to describe AKP and said, ‘These descriptions are very ugly, it is offensive and an insult to our religion. There is no moderate or immoderate Islam. Islam is Islam and that’s it.”
For all of you who want to believe there is a “moderate” Islam, or that Islam needs some sort of a “reformation”(to say nothing about actually achieving that), consider what this man has said. Get a copy of the Koran and read it. And then stop with the comparisons to the Protestant Reformation. The Protestant Reformation happened when the Bible was correctly read and compared to the then current practices of the Catholic Church which were different from what the Bible says. The idea that Islam can be “reformed” and made somehow compatable with Western ideas like democracy, freedom of conscience and choice in religion, and separation of church and state in public commerce and government is nonsense. Those ideas do not appear in the Koran. Nor are the ideas of “melting pot” and “assimilation”, in case you were wondering.
