Having lived on both sides of Puget Sound, and riden these ferries since the ’60’s, it was interesting to see all of the hubbub going on about some suspicious passengers riding on the vessels, apparantly checking them and the ferry workers’ routines out. THIS is the kind of thing the John Doe laws were meant to address. Both the ferry system and the FBI are asking for people to watch and report anything suspicious. And in a particularly unusual move for the FBI, they’ve released a couple of photos of two men that ferry workers thought were acting suspiciously. Good job ferry crew. Thank you FBI. Thank you Seattle Times for printing it. No thanks to the Seattle P-I, which didn’t, citing all the usual bleedy heart reasons… a pox on you all.
Michelle has more. So does Atlas, and LGF. CNN has a short video. By the way, the Seattle Times had a report at the beginning of August about it,
Washington state ferry employees have been told to watch for suspicious passengers after an incident in which someone took some out-of-the-ordinary photos.
Washington State Patrol spokesman Bob Calkins in Olympia says the incident took place last month and he can’t disclose details because it’s still under investigation. He says it led to an internal memo to ferry employees asking them to be more alert.
Calkins says the photo-takers drew attention because they were behaving a little differently than commuters or tourists. He says no officer was available at the time to check them out, so the memo was sent. He says it’s not a warning.
I guess they think otherwise today, because going public with pics of the men is a little more serious. Atlas’ story from the middle of August mentions a report of increased “presence” at the docks. I’ve seen the car sniffing dogs, and the extra “official” presence before now. Now, we need all the John Does of the area to be paying close attention. Jihad has moved through Seattle before, and there is no reason to believe it will somehow get a pass in the future.
